THE PETITION

Lydd Airport is a small local airport owned by Sheikh Fahad al Athel which is planning to become a regional airport with 2 million passengers per annum by 2015. Lydd is not a suitable site for a regional airport being surrounded by fragile habitats protected under European and UK laws, located under the largest migratory bird route in the South of England, located less than 3 miles from the Dungeness nuclear complex and less than 2 miles and 8 miles from the Lydd and Hythe military ranges. The growth in the airport will directly and indirectly damage the rare plant, invertebrate, bird and animal populations of Dungeness and pose a major public safety risk as fully loaded B737s will be tasking off and landing less than three miles from the Dungeness nuclear power complex.

DESIRED OUTCOME

Not to have any further development of Lydd Airport

WHO WE NEED TO INFLUENCE

Local Councillors, local MPs, Lydd Airport management, local people, people concerned about air safety, people concern about the environment.

HOW LONG WILL WE CAMPAIGN

We don't know as the airport has only just submitted its planning application

CHRIS MATTHEWSIf it's OK to have a nuclear power station next to a large airport, let's build one at Hatton Cross.
NAME SUPPLIEDAllowing development of this airport, in such a magnificent and unique habitat, would be criminal, defiling one of the last magical areas that still exist in the South-East. Who profits?!
NAME SUPPLIEDTotally inappropriate for the surrounding area.
NICHOLAS PAGE
GARY BROWNEWould bring noise pollution to one of the most peaceful parts of kent!!!
CAMERON BROWNERomney marsh is one of the most beautiful places I know, and I am proud to say I live there! Its upsetting to know that there are people out there who are willing to spoil it! CB, age 15.

NAME SUPPLIEDWe don't need more airports in the UK, we do need to preserve this unique area of biodiversity.
NAME SUPPLIEDImmensely damaging to the important wildlife habitats that surround it
JEFF BAKERThis unique habitat cannot be replecated for those species displaced.
CLIFFORD DEANI find it astounding that this plan was not thrown out immediately. The site lacks infrastructure, the flight paths are blocked by nuclear power stations, firing ranges and risk of birdstrike.
NAME SUPPLIEDThis development is not needed
DR NORMAN WADDINGTONAs a qualified Biodiversity Scientist I feel that it is important that this project does not go ahead because of the local ecology and flight paths of migratory birds
ERICA HUDSON
VALERIE JONESThis is not a suitable area for ANY airport. No expansion, please!
NAME SUPPLIED
TREVOR SNYMANThink about the natural environment before the economic benefits. The UK deserves better than this expansion!
GILLIAN WESTRAYThe BP crisis in the USA gives a clue as to the potential for disaster apart from the obvious effect on migrating flocks of birds.
NAME SUPPLIEDAbsolute madness! When will we start to treasure the beauty and significance of our natural enviroment and treat it with the respect it deserves. No to noise, pollution, destruction and danger!
SUZANNA HAGGLOF
JOANNE DOWN
HOLLIE O'NEILL
MONICA BUTCHERthe airport extension will destroy the marsh habitat
MARTIN JOHN YOUELLThe destruction of a unique environment, a potential danger, the death of the many holiday campsites and therefore many local businesses costing more jobs than it would ever create.
NAME SUPPLIEDThe airport development will ruin the environment and peaceful atmosphere of the area, will threaten the local birdlife and will be a potential safety hazard due to proximity of nuclear power plants
NAME SUPPLIED The council must stop this. A full enquiry must be held.
JIM RADLEY
PAUL GOODWINThe flying fraternity are one of our environments worst enemies.
NAME SUPPLIEDAre we insane, another airport that we don't need and won't bring anything to the area but instead just destroy something we love, criminal!!!!
NAME SUPPLIED
NAME SUPPLIEDUnsuitable development - unbelievable the way the councillrs railroaded this through on the night, despite overwhelming advice to the contrary.
STEPHEN MCKENZIEWe have to keep the Marsh Special, more tourisum? all it will bring is more traffic driving through
NAME SUPPLIEDI oppose the expansion to Lydd Airport on environmental grounds. It is an major migratory route for birds. I also opoose it on safety grounds. It is 60seconds flying time from Dungeness power stat
NAME SUPPLIED
NAME SUPPLIED
JAMES ROBSONYou must protect the environment
MR. G.FOSTER&MRS. C. FOSTERit will be the end of the marsh aswe know it. if this is not stopped the next thing sheikh fahad al athel will be a mosque erected on site

NAME SUPPLIEDIt's a unique site, too special to develop in this way.
NAME SUPPLIEDobviously not the place for an airport developement
GILLIAN MOOREShame on Shepway council, these plans MUST now be called in for a full Public Inquiry
BRENDA DODSONunique Dungeness with beutiful wildlife. To replace birds singing and Summer holiday tranquillity with noise , pollution and concrete is ludicrous and demonstrates that council have eyes for dollars
AMANDA NICOLhttp://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/1999/mar/04/uk.davidpallister1 Sheikh Fahad al-Athel has got friends in all the right places!
NAME SUPPLIED
AGNES NICOL OBEenvironmental Hasard Claims of 2000jobs would not hold to scrutiny
PAUL MARSHALLThis has to be stopped in its tracks now!!
NAME SUPPLIEDANy development to the airport will be detrimental to local wildlife and runs the risk of damage to a nuclear power station.
NAME SUPPLIEDThe development of Lydd airport will be detrimental to wildlife and opens the risk of damage to a nuclear power station.
LANCE DALLYwhy do we need a airport 20 miles for mainline rail link and nearest motorway.
JULIE THOMASNature, Children, Power Station - This is an unnessesary location for this type of expansion. When we the people of the UK are told to do our bit for the enviroment this plan is very contradictary.
NAME SUPPLIEDCONCERNS SO CLOSE TO POWER STATION LOSS OF WILD LIFE FLIGHT PATH TO BUSY HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS OVER EAST SUSSEX
NAME SUPPLIEDTraffic, noise, pollution and destruction! No thank you!
ANONThere is no need for an airport, the ashford road is the only way out of new romney and only singled lane they will now want to expand that causing havoc for local people.
STEVEN GRAY I live close to this site. I am horrified. Why do we need millions of extra people on that ashford road
NAME SUPPLIEDThere are too many planes in this crowded sky already. With airlines at Gatwic and Heathrow struggling to make a profit there is no sense in expanding the airline industry here.
NAME SUPPLIEDLudicrous, how can the Marsh infra structure cater for 2 million passengers in 2015? Regular flood warnings, swirling marsh mists Dungerness what a perfect setting for an airport. As for wildlife...
NAME SUPPLIED
NAME SUPPLIEDA totally inappropriate plan next to a nature reserve.
ALAN WIDDOWSONCall a halt to airport expansion
ROISINIf unchecked, Airport pollution could be the largest factor in Climate Change in the UK. This is a sensitive and insecure location for a large-scale Airport.

SAM PAYNERomney Marsh and Dungeness leave them alone, do not spoil them!!
DAVID SAUNDERSWhat madness to think that we in the South need another airport.
ROGER SCUTTI lived near Gatwick when it was like lydd now look at it,I moved away from the noise and the aviation fuel dropping from incoming aircraft.
KATHE DEUTSCHThe proposed development is completely inappropriate and in any case is far too near Dungneness power station
NAME SUPPLIED
SAFFRON SUMMERFIELDIThe plans to make Lydd airport into another Gatwick are preposterous.Romney Marsh is one of the last wilderness areas of England. Please do not let this kind of mad capitalism destroy this unique terr
ANN LILLEY
SHAMMI GHALEPlease save our wildlife!
CHRIS METCALFEarent we supposed to trying to reduce our carbon footprint not find ways to increasing it? Swap the beach in corfu for the beach in camber!
NAME SUPPLIEDAn airport near a Nuclear Power plant!! (911 did nobody learn!). Area prone to flood. Disasterous consequences for wildlife and residents in one of the few remaining unspoilt areas of the UK.
NAME SUPPLIED
SAM THOMAS
KERRY DALEYLydd and the surrounding area of Dungeness/Romney Marsh are one of the few remaining areas of natural beauty. to allowed them to be destroyed simply for commercial gain is both criminal & disrepectful
