THE PETITION

The Scottish Youth Parliament is committed to pressuring decision-makers to listen to young people, so when we asked young people about the things they felt were important and they told us that they felt like no-one listened to them (apart from us of course!), we decided to take action.

We believe that young people deserve the right to be involved in decisions which affect them, especially if the government thinks they're old enough to pay taxes, get married or fight wars—that’s why we think the voting age should be lowered to 16 for all elections!

This isn't about increasing turnout, if some 16 & 17 year olds don't want to vote then that's up to them (even if we think that's a bit daft), this petition is about rights - 16 and 17 year olds are treated as tax-paying citizens so why don't they have the right to decide on their governments?

Please put your name to this petition and we’ll add your voice to our call to Government for Votes @ 16…

DESIRED OUTCOME

The voting age is reduced to 16 for all elections in the United Kingdom.

WHO WE NEED TO INFLUENCE

KAYLEIGH COUTTSNot giving 16 and 17 year olds the vote when these things very much affect them absolutely unfair. They have to pay taxes and can raise families and yet and yet are treated like 2nd class citizens.
